Stainless steel crowns are important restorations for primary and young permanent teeth. The purpose of this article is to review the literature pertaining to stainless steel crowns. Indications, modifications of the basic technique, common errors, retention of crowns, and gingival condition surrounding restored teeth were reviewed. Areas where further clinical or basic science research is needed were identified.
